By genetically altering corn, soybeans, and cotton so they can be sprayed throughout the growing season, farmers are now spraying their fields three times a season. Roundup is a glasshouse-based herbicide used in many GM crops. The makers of Roundup have long reported that this is a safe alternative to chemical pesticides. Although this type of herbicide may be more desirTABLE than its purely chemical rivals there are still environmental factors that must be considered.
The decreased number of earthworms has resulted in a significant decrease of the bird populations in many areas where GM crops are grown USDA, There has been no ruling against the use of Bet toxins in the United States however the French court has over- ruled Monsanto claims that there are no harmful effects to humans or the environment in Marshall, Threats to Agricultural Biodiversity Concerns have also been raised by scientists and environmentalists grading unintended effects of Bet toxins on non-targeted animals and insects.
If the weeds can grow tolerant of the pesticides, it is logical to believe that insect pests may develop a resistance as well. This will cause there to be a spike in the pest insect population causing and imbalance in their relationship to preying animals John Nines Centre, The most alarming effects of pesticides are related to the recent phenomenon of disappearing bees known as Colony Collapse Disorder CDC.
This, however, is not related to Bet toxins; it is believed to be caused by inconsistencies, a class f neuron-active insecticides produced by Brayer, the second world leader in GM crop production. The study showed that bees exposed to high amount of inconsistencies perished quickly, however the colonies exposed to small amounts over a period of four months also eventually succumbed to CDC. False Promises It is arguTABLE that GM food manufacturers could not anticipate such harmful effects on humans and the environment and therefore we can view their statements regarding health and safety as non-malicious, however, there have also been false claims made by Monsanto that make it extremely difficult for the consumers to have faith in their practices.
A Monsanto-trained scientist, Dry. Florence Hamburg, claimed that the sweet potatoes grown on a test farm in Africa showed a higher yield that of the non-modified variety grown on the same farm.
This caused many proponents of GM foods to claim that international cultivation of these crops will solve our world hunger problems by creating a sustainTABLE food source. It was later discovered that the claims made by Hamburg were untrue and, in fact, the GM sweet potatoes died out much sooner than the naturally grown counter-part.
A similar study done in Uganda has also shown that non-GM sweet potatoes reduce higher yield. The study found that the sustainability of these crops is unreliTABLE and whereas the yield was higher in some areas, it was significantly lower in others. Would you like to get such a paper? How about receiving a customized one? The Dangers of Genetically Modified Foods. Over the past 20 years, the chance of getting deadly food allergies in children has tripled.
Parents have to check for things their children are allergic to in everything they buy. None of thee enhanced foods are worth all of these bad health effects. What they say about these foods may be true based off of what they know right now, but we don't know what dangers they'll have in the future. Take the Fukushima nuclear meltdown for example. That power plant was safe until the earthquake and tsunami took out the cooling systems.
The reactors went off causing one of two worst nuclear disasters in history. Now the Japanese are seriously considering to abandon Fukushima completely. A disaster with genetically modified foods will be unforeseen and will be as bad as the Fukushima meltdown disaster. Until we can gain all information and conduct all safety tests to learn all that we can about these foods, we cannot feed them to the world. Genetically engineered foods were also made to decrease hunger throughout the world.
A twenty year study done by Doug Gurian Sherman shows absolutely no decrease in hunger anywhere in the world. This is because scientists attacked the wrong problem, the world doesn't need more food, it needs better distribution tactics. The world can't get their food if we can't distribute them properly.
Many third world countries hamper distribution so their people can't get any food. The hungry people in the world are hungry because they are poor. They can't pay for their groceries so why bother making more food for a cause that can't pay for it? Biotechnologists and agriculturalists didn't make these foods because they care about benefitting the world and helping the poor, they made genetically modified foods because it benefits their businesses. There are many, many consequences that can, will, and has happened because of genetically modified foods.
Our health, plants, animals, and ecosystems are in great danger. We need to stop making these foods now before it's too late. If we don't, then there will be irreparable damage to the environment, all of our food supplies will be ruined, our overall health will be destroyed, and our life expectancy will decrease greatly. If we all come together, we can put an end to this fatal industry before it is too late. Which of your works would you like to tell your friends about? Common Genetically Modified Foods. According to a WebMD article, experts say that about sixty to seventy percent of processed foods sold in the United States contain genetically modified ingredients. Soybeans,, corn, cotton, and rapeseed oil are the most commonly genetically modified foods.
Genetically modified (GM) foods could produce new toxic substances, and/or allergens. A gene from the Brazil nut was inserted into the DNA of a soybean plant to increase the nutritional value of the soybean.
As to the disadvantages of using GM food, the researchers say that there can be many potential impacts on human health causing new diseases with a higher antibiotic resistance. Also it is a high probability of creation of new allergens and an initiation an allergy in humans. Labeling is consistent with the right to know for consumers. And it is the best way to give consumer a choice to buy GM foods. It is consistent with the right to choose for consumers. Then, the fact that is GM foods’ disadvantages will be known to the people, they will not buy the foods%(1).
Genetically modified foods have become a major concern and have caused controversy regarding both their health and environmental effects. Persuasive Essay On Genetically Modified Food. overpowers the bad. Many experts argue that Genetically Modified foods are actually beneficial to, not only people, but animals, plants, and the world overall. Some experts even state that, not only are they beneficial, but that they also protect the environment and aid food productivity.
